Cave tubing is a very popular activity in Belize. The Caves
Branch River and it's winding path through the Maya mountain
and numerous ancient caves once inhabited by the maya, is
a popular sight to go caving. Interestingly the Caves Branch
River system is near Belmopan and includes a series of caves
and underground river, offering lengthy tube rides over
gentle currents that lead you through the cave system.
The
cave located at Jaguar Paw is one hour drive out of Belize
City, into the country side. Once you arrive you will be
led by an experienced tour guide while hiking through the
jungle for half hour with your tube in hand and a flash
light on your head. You will learn how ancient Mayas considered
the caves to be a super natural realm, home of ancestors,
invisible world of the gods, and all about a place called
Xibalba. The easy part after hiking will be relaxing, while
floating through the cave system, one leading into another,
viewing the sight as you pass in and out of the area from
pitch black to sun light, and enjoying the blue water carrying
you on this unbelievable journey down stream. After two
hours of tubing, you will work up a delicious bar.b.q.chicken.
Bring
along tennis shoes, or water shoes, water camera, towel
and bathing suits. Your belongings can be safely locked
up in the van and a changing room is available at the area.
